Harneys wins award for funds expertise
Leading international offshore law firm Harneys has been named Best Offshore Law Firm - Client Service at the HFM European Hedge Fund Services Awards announced on 21 April 2016. The awards recognise firms that have provided leading client service, innovation and expertise in financial services.
The awards follow a year of increased activity from Harneys’ Funds practice. The firm has acted on a number of ground-breaking deals which in Europe have included the launch of the first Cyprus hedge fund, which is also the first investing into Iran following UN sanctions lifting in 2016 and a thriving London funds practice which has seen the firm act for clients of all sizes, from start-up hedge funds and emerging managers to global multi-billion dollar investment institutions.
In Cayman, Harneys expanded with the hire of three funds specialists including Appleby’s global head of investment funds, Ian Gobin, whilst in Bermuda it, added insurance-linked securities specialist Michael Skrbic. The firm continues to dominate in the BVI, where it acts for longstanding asset managers including GAM. In Latin America it continues to be ranked as the only Tier 1 offshore firm and represents some of the region’s largest fund structures, and in Asia the firm has grown to be one of the largest offshore firms in Hong Kong, marking 2016 by opening a representative office in Shanghai.
London based funds partner Sean Scott commented: “We are delighted to have received an award which specifically recognises our commitment to client service. At a time of increasing complexity in our industry, reliability is key. Our London funds team prides itself on taking the time to understand client needs and this, together with the team’s experience, allows us to provide the highest quality advice and best service possible every time.”
Jonathan Culshaw, Harneys Global Head of Investment Funds and Regulatory, commented: “We are now one of the most dynamic, fastest growing offshore funds teams worldwide. As we grow we look to build lasting relationships with clients through clear and commercial advice, a friendly and unpretentious approach to doing business and flexible and transparent pricing, free of unreasonable assumptions. We treat our clients as our valued partners and are uncompromising in our firm-wide commitment to achieve excellence in client service on time all of the time. It gives me great pleasure to see the efforts of Sean and the London team recognised in this way on the basis of the objective feedback of happy clients.”
Philip Graham, partner and head of Harneys' BVI Funds team, commented: "This award reflects Harneys' ongoing commitment and dedication. Client satisfaction is at the core of what we do and we are pleased to be recognised by HFMWeek in this regard."
